Pwee Foundation Supports UP Singapore

October 2013, The Pwee Foundation assisted technology company Newton Circus in an active ageing hackathon. The hackaton falls under the aegis of Urban Prototyping Singapore, one of Newton Circus’ projects.

The Foundation sponsored the hackaton’s Silver Spring challenge, in which participants think of ways to capture and transfer the work experiences of senior citizens. The team with the most viable idea would win up to S$10000 in seed funding to further develop their idea.


Amanda Ammann Completes Internship

October 2013, Ms Amanda Amann has completed her internship with the Pwee Foundation. Ms Amann, a Swiss national, worked as a project manager for the Pwee Foundation during her three-month work attachment.

“It was a very enriching experience to work with people from different sectors and with different backgrounds. It was the first time I had the chance to gain insights into the field of impact investment, which I find very interesting,” she said.

Pwee Foundation hosts Bhutanese officials

August 2013, The Pwee Foundation recently had the privilege of hosting two senior education officials from Bhutan. Mr Chencho Tshering is a principal of a private school, while Mr Phuntsho Wangdi is a district education officer. Mr Tshering was on a two-week exchange visit, while Mr Wangdi was studying in the Lwee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.

The Pwee Foundation brought them to visit Dell, local schools, Junior Achivement and Boys’ Town Home. There they learned about Singaporean pedagogy, especially the use of information communication technology in education, and the rehabilitation of youths.

“I want to express my gratitude to the Pwee Foundation for being very kind to host the trip,” Mr Tshering said. They have since returned home, where they will pass on the lessons they have learned.


Pwee Foundation to collaborate with BoP Hub

August 2013, The Pwee Foundation is proud to announce that we will be working with the Bottom of the Pyramid (BoP) Hub to help the world’s poor. Founded by Professor Jack Sim of the World Toilet Organisation, the BoP Hub aims to help social entrepreneurs in underdeveloped countries to build capability by providing advice, capital mentors and connections to impact investors. The Pwee Foundation will work with the BoP Hub to see how we can help them achieve their goals.


Pwee Foundation raises funds for Sun-eee

August 2013, Sun-eee has three goals: helping rural Cambodians gain access to electricity, replacing polluting diesel generators in the region with cleaner biomass power, and making a profit. Dr Sov Leang, CEO of Sun-eee, met Pwee Foundation Board Chairman Mr Benjamin Pwee in 2012. Developing a strong connection, Mr Pwee brought in four investors to co-invest in Sun-eee, raising funds for the future projects. Over the next 5 years, Sun-eee aims to be the leading power company in rural Cambodia, with a market share of over 15%.
